JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON - (Sept. 13, 2019) After six weeks of training, Navy Counselor 1st Class Kelliann Ramirez of Atlanta, assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, was promoted to the rank of chief petty officer during a pinning ceremony held at the Fort Sam Houston Theatre. Ramirez, born in Jamaica, is a 1996 graduate of St. Mary High School in St. Mary, Jamaica, and a 2000 graduate of Herzing College in Atlanta. She joined America’s Navy in 2004 becoming a recruiter in 2008. Pinning on Ramirez’s chief insignia were her husband, Ed, their son, and Senior Chief Navy Counselor Astacha Jones. “To be a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy is truly a privilege,” said Ramirez. “Coming from a small town in Jamaica, to now being selected as a Navy chief, is truly an honor. I wish my dad could see me now.” At the ceremony’s conclusion, active duty, retired, and former chief petty officers “Manned the Rails” and saluted Ramirez as she passed through the side boys and was welcomed into the NRD Chief’s Mess. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
