JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON - (Sept. 13, 2019) After six weeks of training, Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class Joseph Corbeil III of Brownsville, Texas, assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, was promoted to the rank of chief petty officer during a pinning ceremony held at the Fort Sam Houston Theatre. Corbeil is a 2004 graduate of Lopez High School and a 2019 graduate of Grand Canyon University. He joined America’s Navy after graduating high school becoming a recruiter in 2010. Pinning on Corbeil’s chief insignia were his wife, Crystal, and his parents. “This is this single most important milestone I’ve accomplished in my Navy career,” said Corbeil. “A chief petty officer is highly revered, the ambassador of good will, a technical expert and is the embodiment of Honor, Courage and Commitment. I am proud to serve as a Navy Chief.” At the ceremony’s conclusion, active duty, retired, and former chief petty officers “Manned the Rails” and saluted Corbeil as he passed through the side boys and was welcomed into the NRD Chief’s Mess. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
