JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON - (Sept. 13, 2019) After six weeks of training, Ship’s Serviceman 1st Class Christy Naranjo of Memphis, assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, was promoted to the rank of chief petty officer during a pinning ceremony held at the Fort Sam Houston Theatre. Naranjo, a 2004 graduate of Frayser High School and a 2013 graduate of Central Texas College, was pinned by her husband, Juan and son, Juan III joined by Lt. Nicole Washington (left) and Gwendolyn Hooks-Kramer. “I feel like I am part of something bigger than myself,” said Naranjo. “I was making waves before but now I really have a further opportunity to shape junior Sailors and officers towards success in the Navy. I know in my heart that I would have not gotten to this level of success and pride without my subordinates and seniors alike.” At the ceremony’s conclusion, active duty, retired, and former chief petty officers “Manned the Rails” and saluted Naranjo as she passed through the side boys and was welcomed into the NRD Chief’s Mess. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
