JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON - (Sept. 13, 2019) After six weeks of training, Fire Controlman 1st Class Jordan Dayberry of Leonard, Texas, assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, was promoted to the rank of chief petty officer during a pinning ceremony held at the Fort Sam Houston Theatre. Dayberry joined America’s Navy after graduating from Leonard High School in 2011 becoming a recruiter in 2019. Pinning on Dayberry’s chief insignia were his brother, Kevin (left) and father, Kenneth. “Becoming a Navy chief means that I now have the backing, authority, and knowledge of the entire mess to better mentor and lead my Sailors,” said Dayberry. At the ceremony’s conclusion, active duty, retired, and former chief petty officers “Manned the Rails” and saluted Dayberry as he passed through the side boys and was welcomed into the NRD Chief’s Mess. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
