U.S. Soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, lunge to retrieve medicine balls during a call for fire lane at the 1‑501st Aviation Battalion Belt Buckle Rodeo on Fort Bliss, Texas, May 26, 2026. The lane required Soldiers to identify the correct grid coordinates, request a simulated strike over radio, and throw medicine balls at their simulated targets. The belt buckle rodeo, modeled after a cavalry scout spur ride, is the first of its kind for the battalion and included multiple strenuous events and ruck marches to build camaraderie and distinguish participants from other aviation units.
