Ever wonder about the financial backbone of our Sailor training? Meet Natalie Huffman, the Deputy Comptroller at the Center for Service Support (CSS) in Newport, R.I! For the past six years, Ms. Huffman has built and managed the domain’s budget plan - mapping out how CSS funding will be executed throughout the year. She tracks every dollar to make sure contracts, travel, and operational needs are fully funded and aligned with mission priorities.
Ms. Huffman’s work directly supports SECWAR’s priority to modernize training. By improving financial visibility and streamlining processes, she helps ensure CSS can invest in the tools, technology, and resources needed to deliver cutting-edge training to Sailors. She recently developed an automated funding dashboard, a game-changing tool that gives leaders across 16 sites instant, detailed data on their spending. This innovation allows for smarter, faster decisions, ensuring resources are used wisely to deliver top-tier training to the Fleet. It’s not just about balancing the books; it’s about providing the visibility needed to modernize our operations from the inside out.
