Meet Wendy Norris, Financial Management Analyst, a vital force behind the scenes at the Center for Service Support (CSS) here in Newport, R.I. With seven years at CSS, Ms. Norris plays a critical role in keeping operations running smoothly - and ensuring our people are taken care of.
Let’s break down what a Financial Management Analyst does.
Every day, Ms. Norris wears multiple hats - she serves as a timekeeper, customer service rep, and labor analyst for civilian payroll. She also acts as the Headquarters Approving Official (AO) for the Government Purchase Card (GPC), and helps ensure every dollar is spent responsibly and in accordance with regulations.
Ms. Norris reports payroll data to higher headquarters, ensuring accuracy and accountability across the enterprise and works closely with N1 on hiring, separations, and pay-related issues - making sure civilians are paid correctly and on time.
As AO, she also reviews purchase requests to keep CSS aligned with federal financial rules and regulations.
Ms. Norris’ work directly supports SECWAR’s priority to modernize training. How? Because she ensures funding is properly tracked, payroll is accurate, and purchasing is compliant, she enables CSS to invest in updated training tools, technologies, and resources that keep our Sailors ready for the fight.
One thing she wants everyone to know? She’s here to help. Whether it’s navigating SLDCADA - the timekeeping program that civilians use - or understanding your pay, you don’t have to figure it out alone. And no - she doesn’t make the rules … she just makes sure everyone follows them.
