Ever wonder who makes sure our Fleet Personnel Specialists are learning the right information at the right time?
Meet PSCS Brian Ayres — one of the people behind the scenes making that happen every day.
Fleet Training Manager PSCS Ayres has the massive job of managing the curriculum for multiple courses that train Personnel Specialists across the Fleet. That means he’s constantly reviewing and updating course materials to make sure they reflect the latest policies, instructions, and real-world needs. From overseeing PQS and Rate Training Manuals to shaping how courses are taught, his work directly impacts how well Sailors are prepared to do their jobs.
He also works closely with teams across the Fleet — including My Navy Career Center and instructors in Dam Neck, Va.; San Diego, Calif.; and Meridian, Miss. — to ensure training stays aligned, accurate, and effective. It’s a collaborative effort that helps set the next generation of PSs up for success.
Right now, PSCS Ayres is leading a major overhaul of the Advanced Disbursing Operations course — a full redesign that will change how the material is taught and improve how students learn critical skills.
One thing many people don’t realize? Training Managers can’t just change content freely — everything must be backed by verified, legitimate references. Accuracy isn’t optional — it’s essential.
When it comes to getting the job done, Brian keeps it simple: stay focused and don’t let distractions slow progress.
Outside of work, you’ll likely find him spending time with his family — or on the pickleball court (he says it’s addictive!).
Thank you, PSCS Ayres, for helping ensure our Fleet is trained, prepared, and mission-ready!
