Dr. Andrea Palamenghi, Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology, spoke about sorting large-scale commingled remains of migrants from an April 18, 2015 shipwreck in the Mediterranean during the fourth Scientific Summit in Milan, Italy, Sept. 18, 2025. With 16 different countries in attendance, the event sought to share innovations in forensic identification, isotope testing, and DNA analysis while fostering international cooperation in the scientific community. Other presentations included briefings on isotope testing, field recovery operations, and the various partnerships between the DPAA and other countries.
