During this sale a storm had already left plenty of snow on the ground but more was coming. The timber companies will continue to work through adverse conditions as long as their employees can safely exit the area. This road, built when the plantation was created, provides access for inspectors, fire engines, and timber companies. There is no mistaking that these trees aren't legacy or all-growth forests but simply looking through the trees one can tell the thickness of the brush. Timber and logging companies, Sierra Pacific Industries and Peterson Timber, work an active timber harvest sale in the McBride Plantation area just southwest of Mount Shasta on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in February 2023. The companies won bids to cut trees within the 3,000-acre area, build bundles for chipping, and transport their material to their mills or staging area. (USDA Forest Service photo by Paul Wade)
