The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers successfully completes debris removal operations at the final Federal Emergency Management Agency-assigned coastal parcel along the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, California, July 8, 2025. The milestone marks the conclusion of a massive regional recovery effort following the Southern California wildfires, which stands as one of the largest debris missions in state history. Throughout the operation, USACE managed the removal of more than 500,000 tons of hazardous ash, scorched timber, and fire-damaged debris across the region, restoring safe access to hundreds of residential and public properties. By finalizing the clearance of this critical coastal corridor, USACE has mitigated long-term environmental risks and cleared the way for Southern California communities to begin the rebuilding process.
