Dale Maratas, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) life support investigator (LSI), ties a bucket to a screening station during a recovery mission in South Korea, May 28, 2024. DPAA LSI’s hang buckets at screening stations so recovery team members can put any unique materials found while screening through soil in them. LSI’s are subject matter experts on items found on or near aviators from past conflicts, working closely with scientific recovery experts to distinguish aircraft wreckage from life support evidence.
