Demetrius McCowan (far right), a sheet metal aircraft structural mechanic with the 1106th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group, and a native of Fresno, Calif., hold the winning trophies at the 2012 Best Warrior Competition award ceremony Oct. 23 at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Calif. Standing in between are the adjutant general of the California National Guard, Maj. Gen. David Baldwin, and U.S. congressman Dana Rohrbacher. Cunningham and McCowan won the trophies for placing first in events held during Sept. 11-17 at the Best Warrior Competition at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif.
