Jose Alves, Jr., combat medic with the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1-143rd Field Artillery, 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and a native of Riverbank, Calif., holds the trophy he won Oct. 23 at the 2012 Best Warrior Competition award ceremony in the Liberty Theater at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Calif. Alves won the 10-kilometer ruck march event held during Sept. 11-17 at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif.
