During the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter, Master Sgt. Travis E. Watkins, Company E, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, was killed during an assault by North Korean forces, as he covered the retreat of his men. For his actions, Watkins was awarded the Medal of Honor. Originally from Waldo, Ar., Watkins joined the Army in June 1939 from Troup, Tex., where his family moved when he was a young child.
