During the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter, Sgt. 1st Class Loren R. Kaufman, Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, led his men on a viscous counter-assault against the North Korean forces that had surrounded them. His assault dispersed the enemy. For his actions, Kaufman was awarded the Medal of Honor. Kaufman entered the Army from The Dalles, Ore. in 1941.
