During the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter, Boston, Mass. native Sgt. 1st Class Charles W. Turner, 2nd Reconnaissance Company, 2nd Infantry Division, was killed during an assault by North Korean forces, as he returned fire on a mounted machine gun. Despite being badly wounded, Turner rallied his men and shouted encouragement until he took his final breath. For his actions, Turner was awarded the Medal of Honor.
