School children and faculty from a rural school in Gulbene, Latvia, interact with U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Matthew S. Fornisamo, from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, during an outreach to the primary and secondary school there on Nov. 12, 2014. The U.S. soldiers, along with Latvian soldiers, were greeted by the elementary students and treated to a musical performance and question-and-answer session prior to interacting with the high school students later in the day. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
