Brig. Gen. Niel E. Nelson, second from right, awards the Meritorious Service Medal to Sgt. Maj. Rick L. Fode, center, June 20 at the Surfside on Camp Kinser. Fode was the sergeant major of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. He retired after serving 22 years in the Marine Corps. During the ceremony, Fode’s wife, Sgt. Maj. Tamara L. Fode, second from left, also retired from the Marine Corps after 26 years of service. Tamara L. Fode, a Hazelton, North Dakota, native, was the sergeant major of 3rd MLG, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Nelson is the commanding general of 3rd MLG, III MEF.
