Vice Adm. Heidi Berg, commander of U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, Navy Space Command and U.S. 10th Fleet, answers a question from the audience following her keynote remarks at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) Future Warfighting Symposium (FWS) onboard Naval Station Newport, Aug. 6, 2026. The tenth annual FWS welcomed over 400 in-resident students, including officers from all branches of the U.S. armed forces, U.S. federal government agencies, and brought together a broad group of subject matter experts to address topics identified by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as special areas of emphasis, including cyber warfare, space, artificial intelligence and data analysis, and strategic deterrence. Donovan, Commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), a report on their regional capstone project on-site during the annual PANAMAX exercise in the Republic of Panama on Aug. 12, 2026.
Donovan has tasked the MAWS cohort with developing a joint, combined and interagency defense of identified strategic terrain in the region, and PANAMAX 26 offered an opportunity for the students to provide an update to the commander alongside Panamanian Minister of Public Security Frank Alexis Ábrego.
