    A plaque for the Bureau of Reclamation is seen as officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation conduct a tour of Anderson Ranch Dam, Mountain Home, Idaho, Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026. The dam is a key component of the Boise River's water management system.

    The Bureau of Reclamation and Idaho Water Resource Board project raises the crest of the 456-foot earthen dam by 6 feet. This structural expansion creates approximately 29,000 acre-feet (around 9.4 billion gallons) of new water storage capacity. Because Anderson Ranch is located at the highest elevation in the Boise River Basin, capturing additional runoff high upstream gives water managers greater operational flexibility to meter out clean water during dry summer months while relieving pressure on downstream infrastructure.
