    U.S. Army 1st. Sgt. (Ret.) Mark Siner, 3-172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain), Vermont National Guard, provides context to the origin of the Ramadi Cross during its unveiling, at Camp Johnson, Colchester, Vt., Sept. 11, 2026. Siner was the 1st. Sgt. during the deployment from 2005 to 2006. The Ramadi Cross was originally built in Ramadi, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom to honor the memory of Soldiers belonging to Task Force Saber, who were killed in action. The cross was transported back to Vermont and placed at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, Vt. until recently.
