U.S. Army Soldiers and retirees, from the Vermont National Guard, attend the Ramadi Cross unveiling Ceremony at Camp Johnson, Colchester, Vt., Sept. 11, 2026. The Ramadi Cross was originally built in Ramadi, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom to honor the memory of Soldiers belonging to Task Force Saber, who were killed in action. The cross was transported back to Vermont and placed at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, Vt. until recently. It has since been refurbished and now finds a home at the Vermont National Guard Headquarters and Headquarters Command. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Denis Nunez)
