A blue rescue helicopter with registration 'TF-GNA' and 'RESCUE' markings is conducting a hoist operation on a steep, rocky, moss-covered mountainside. A person or load is suspended on a cable beneath the helicopter, with additional personnel in red gear visible on the slope below. The rugged terrain appears consistent with Icelandic highland landscape.

An Icelandic Coast Guard Airbus H225 Super Puma hoists a simulated casualty after U.S. Air Force pararescuemen assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron recovered the casualty from steep terrain during mountain search and rescue training as part of exercise Northern Viking 26 in Iceland, Aug. 31, 2026. U.S. pararescuemen and Icelandic Coast Guard Super Puma crew practiced the transition from ground recovery to aerial extraction in terrain difficult to access by conventional means. Integrating U.S. pararescue ground-recovery capabilities with Icelandic Coast Guard aviation strengthens readiness and interoperability needed to respond rapidly to emergencies across the Arctic and North Atlantic.
