    86th Airlift Wing

    U.S. Air Force pararescuemen assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, transport a simulated patient across steep terrain during mountain search and rescue training as part of exercise Northern Viking 26 in Iceland, Aug. 31, 2026. The training allows U.S. pararescuemen and Icelandic Coast Guard Super Puma crew to practice casualty recovery together from areas where difficult terrain can limit conventional access. Integrating ground rescue and agile airborne medical evacuation capabilities improves the ability of U.S. and Icelandic forces to rapidly respond to contingencies throughout the High North and North Atlantic.
