    KFOR Regional Command East

    U.S. and multinational service members assigned to Kosovo Force (KFOR) Regional Command-East and Area Support Group-Balkans begin an Extortion 17 memorial ruck march hosted by Task Force Aviation at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, Aug. 9, 2026. The march honored the 38 people killed when Extortion 17, a U.S. Army CH-47D Chinook helicopter, was shot down in Afghanistan Aug. 6, 2011. Among those killed was Colorado Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 5 David Carter, a CH-47 pilot and friend and mentor to members of 2nd Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion).
