A large group of military personnel pose for a formal unit photograph on a tarmac or airfield, flanked by two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Two cranes form an arch overhead, and multiple flags — including the United States flag and what appears to be a state flag — are displayed prominently in the background. The setting appears to be a military base or forward operating location.

U.S. and multinational service members assigned to Kosovo Force (KFOR) Regional Command-East and Area Support Group-Balkans gather for an Extortion 17 memorial ruck march hosted by Task Force Aviation at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, Aug. 9, 2026. Task Force Aviation, led by Colorado Army National Guard Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 135th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion), hosted the march to honor the 38 people killed when Extortion 17, a U.S. Army CH-47D Chinook helicopter, was shot down in Afghanistan Aug. 6, 2011. Among those killed was Colorado Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 5 David Carter, a CH-47 pilot and friend and mentor to members of the battalion. The event honored the fallen while reinforcing solidarity, resilience, shared purpose and unit cohesion among participating service members. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Seth LaCount)
