U.S. Coast Guard Chief Jeff Gagnon, assigned to Port Security Unit 301 (PSU 301), maintains a security position alongside partner nation military personnel during a joint visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) exercise aboard the Esteban Huertas vessel as part of PANAMAX 2026 at Panama City, Aug. 12, 2026. The coordinated security operation strengthened the ability of U.S. and partner forces to protect maritime assets, respond to potential threats and maintain control of the vessel during a simulated security scenario. PANAMAX 2026 seeks to improve interoperability and strengthen collective capacity to conduct complex multinational and all-domain operations to ensure free flow of commerce through the Panama Canal and maintain security and stability in the region.
