Dominican Republic and Marine Reconnaissance personnel open a hatch while conducting a search during a joint visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) exercise aboard the Esteban Huertas vessel as part of PANAMAX 2026 at Panama City, Aug. 12, 2026. The coordinated search enables participating forces to systematically clear and secure vessel compartments, identify potential threats and maintain control of the vessel during a simulated maritime security operation. PANAMAX 2026 seeks to improve interoperability and strengthen collective capacity to conduct complex multinational and all-domain operations to ensure free flow of commerce through the Panama Canal and maintain security and stability in the region.
