A pilot from Oxnard, California-based Aspen Helicopters Inc. approaches the flight deck of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division’s Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) during deck landing qualifications off the coast of Port Hueneme on June 10. Pilots must complete a series of touch-and-go landings while the SDTS is underway at sea to requalify for deck landing certification twice a year. Before becoming a test platform, the SDTS was an active-duty Spruance-class destroyer, USS Paul F. Foster (DD 964). (U.S. Navy photo by Eric Parsons)
