A U.S. Green Beret assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) conducts target verification and establishes communications with retrograde positions during Operation Close Shave as part of exercise Red Flag near Delta Junction, Alaska, June 1, 2026. During Red Flag, SF units conduct discrete operations designed to blend in with the local populace. For decades, Red Flag has provided aircrews the opportunity to train against realistic threats in a contested environment, building experience and confidence before facing real-world adversaries, while ground forces practice identifying and destroying ground-based air defense systems.
