Hannah Harris, a fisheries biologist on the Tongass National Forest, stands beside a salmon-bearing stream on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska, Sept. 25, 2025. The stream is part of a karst system with underground caves that can cause the channel to run dry or flood quickly when the underground systems become overwhelmed during precipitation events. A bridge was installed at this location to replace an undersized culvert that was inhibiting fish passage. (Forest Service photo by Paul Robbins Jr.)
