A healthy stand of young growth trees occupy a site on Prince of Wales Island, within the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, Sept. 25, 2025. The stand received precommercial thinning treatments which decreased competition among remaining trees, leading to better growth rates and increased understory development to support wildlife.
