Lt. Col. James Johnson, commander of the 136th Regional Training Institute, presents a commission as an honorary Admiral in the Texas Navy on behalf of Gov. Greg Abbott to Command Sgt. Maj. Howard Hewitt, outgoing command sergeant major for the 101st Information Operations Battalion, 71st Theater Operations Group, during a retirement ceremony held March 1, 2026, at the Audie Murphy Building on Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas. The commission, an honorary title bestowed by the Governor of Texas, recognizes Hewitt’s 26 years of distinguished service and leadership within the Texas Military Forces. This historic honor adds to a decorated career that began in 1999 and included service as a Military Police officer, K-9 handler, and senior enlisted advisor.
