Command Sgt. Maj. Howard Hewitt, outgoing command sergeant major for the 101st Information Operations Battalion, 71st Theater Operations Group, receives the Legion of Merit from Lt. Col. James Johnson, commander of the 136th Regional Training Institute, during a retirement ceremony held March 1, 2026, at the Audie Murphy Building on Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas. Hewitt, an El Paso native who enlisted in 1999 as a military police officer and former "Army of One" campaign representative, retired after 26 years of service spanning active duty and the Texas National Guard, including deployments to Parwan, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
