Reouven Berdugo, Israel Defense Forces Genomic Laboratory for Casualty Identification director, pipettes mixing beads into a 15 mL conical tube in the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, Nov. 20, 2025. Berdugo and his colleague were at AFDIL to gain insight into the SNPs process to help determine the identity of individuals using highly degraded samples recovered from past conflicts. Contamination prevention and personal safety are crucial parts of casework in the lab environment. Safety measures can include a lab coat, safety glasses, gloves, sleeves, and mask as well as working in a laminar flow hood. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Noah D. Coger)
