Reouven Berdugo, Israel Defense Forces Genomic Laboratory for Casualty Identification director, pipettes out from the stock used to create a master mix during the Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) library preparation procedure in the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, Nov. 20, 2025. SNPs is a new Next Generation DNA Sequencing that allows distant family members, not just close or maternally related individuals, to be used for kinship analysis. Berdugo and his colleague were at AFDIL to gain insight into the SNPs process to help determine the identity of individuals using highly degraded samples recovered from past conflicts.
