    3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne)

U.S. Army Green Berets assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) maintain a security perimeter during a simulated military assisted departure, MAD, during exercise Sage Eagle 25-4 at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, August 26, 2025. A MAD is a coordinated effort to evacuate U.S. citizens and other designated personnel from a foreign country when their safety is threatened.

Exercise Sage Eagle is a recurring, battalion-sized, unconventional warfare exercise that validates Special Forces’ ability to train and incorporate partner forces in unfamiliar environments. Sage Eagle’s stressful, realistic training prepares Air National Guard defenders for rapidly securing contingency locations while shifting their mindset towards the operational demands of complex evolving environments.
