JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2020) – Cmdr. John Lydon, a physician at Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s OB/GYN clinic, discusses prevention with a sailor. Lydon, a native of Chicago, Illinois, holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Medical University of South Carolina. “Before medical school, I saw the tremendous positive impact that my wife's OB/GYN physicians had made in our lives, and that is a large part of why I started my career in OB/GYN. Now, years later, I see the impact that my colleagues and I make in helping women throughout their lives, from prevention and screening, to solving issues, to fostering healthy pregnancies.” Starting at age 21, women should get a Pap test every three years. After turning 30, women have a choice. Get a Pap test every three years, or get a Pap and human papillomavirus (HPV) test every five years. Women should talk with their doctor about options.
