Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces give a Native American "blessing of the soil" prior to a Nov. 8, 2019, ground breaking ceremony in French Camp, Calif., where U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will build a Veterans Affairs Central Valley Community Based Outpatient Clinic.

Col. James Handura, USACE Sacramento District Commander, and Cheree Peterson, Programs Director for USACE’s South Pacific Division, joined VA leaders, members of Congress and many veterans from the Stockton community for the ceremony.

Conveniently located next to San Joaquin General Hospital, the project includes construction of the 158,000 square foot clinic, as well as a 150,000 square foot, 120-bed Community Living Center, and an Engineering Logistics Building. All three are scheduled to be completed in 2022.

The Corps of Engineers has a longstanding strategic partnership with VA, since our historic assistance with major hospital construction projects after World War II. (U.S. Army photo by Ken Wright)
