PORTSMOUTH, Va. (July 12, 2019) – Taylor Austin, Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads Natural Resource Manager, gathers water from the river to aid in rinsing the oysters and cleaning off the pier. Cleaning the pods helps with water flow through the pods for the oysters to filter. The importance of maintaining the oyster pods is so the oysters are cleaning at optimal amounts.
