A smiling chef named Konotop holds a Silver award ribbon from the Annual Culinary Arts Competition at Fort Lee, Virginia, along with a plated dish she prepared. She is wearing a white chef's coat and a competition badge. The background shows a professional competition kitchen with other chefs actively working at stainless steel stations.

Pfc. Olena Konotop, Joint Base Langley-Eustis culinary arts specialist, receives a silver medal in the student chef event Mar. 13 at the Joint Culinary Training Exercise (JCTE), Fort Lee, Va. The silver medal is the second highest recognition in the American Culinary Federation (ACF) judging which is based on industry standards. Military members competing in student chef event have less than two years in the career field. The 43rd annual JCTE started Mar. 10 at the MacLaughlin Fitness Center and continues until Mar. 15. The exercise, administered by the Joint Culinary Center of Excellence, is the largest ACF-sanctioned competition in North America. This year’s exercise showcased the talent of 237 military chefs from all military services around the globe to include four international teams.
