BAY OF CADIZ (Jan. 20, 2018) Cmdr. David Coles, executive officer of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71), watches as an officer from the Spanish navy uses a ladder to board the ship Jan. 20, 2018. Ross is currently participating in an at-sea exercise with the Spanish navy designed to improve the countries’ interoperability when conducting maritime training, including gun and small-boat evolutions. Ross, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on its sixth patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of regional allies and partners and U.S. national security interests in Europe.
