MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Aug. 12, 2017) Sailors dewater a trash can during a "damage control olympics" training event aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) Aug. 12, 2017. Damage control olympics events such as these provide a way for a ship’s crew to practice damage control skills in a competitive, camaraderie-building setting.The ship is deployed with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit to support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet and U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations.
