A U.S. Navy E-2 Hawkeye airborne early warning aircraft is captured moments before landing on an aircraft carrier flight deck, with its tailhook extended and landing gear down. The aircraft's distinctive rotodome radar dish is clearly visible atop the fuselage, and both turboprop engines are running at high RPM. Several naval personnel observe from the carrier's island structure on the right side of the frame.

WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (Sep. 4, 2016) An E-2C Hawkeye, from the “Liberty Bells” of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 15, approaches the flight deck of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The E-2C Hawkeye is an all-weather, carrier-based aircraft that provides airborne early warning, airborne battle management, and command and control functions for the carrier strike group. Flight operations mark the embarkation of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 aircraft to Ronald Reagan for their routine patrol. Ronald Reagan and its embarked air wing, CVW-5, provide a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
