WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (Sept. 4, 2016) An MH-60R Sea Hawk, from the "Saberhawks" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 77, takes off from the flight deck of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The MH-60R Sea Hawk is used to conduct anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, surveillance, search and rescue, medical evacuation, vertical replenishment, naval surface fire support and communications relay. Flight operations mark the embarkation of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 aircraft to Ronald Reagan for their routine patrol. Ronald Reagan and its embarked air wing, CVW-5, provide a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
