160803-N-OI810-037 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 3, 2016) Seaman Yarlene Solis, from Springfield, Massachusetts, activates the strobe of a Firefly distress marker light attached to an MK-1 auto-inflatable life preserver in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The distress marker light helps rescue boat crews and helicopter search-and-rescue crews to see Sailors in the water approximately two miles away . Sailors wear MK-1 auto-inflatable life preservers on the flight deck during flight operations to make them more visible and to protect them and aid in their rescue if they were to fall overboard. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
