160803-N-OI810-032 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 3, 2016) Seaman (SW) Danyelle Akins, from St. Louis, inspects the oral inflation tube of an MK-1 auto-inflatable life preserver in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The oral inflation tube is used to manually inflate the life preserver's bladder if the automatic inflation assembly fails. Sailors wear MK-1 auto-inflatable life preservers on the flight deck during flight operations to make them more visible and to protect them and aid in their rescue if they were to fall overboard. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
