Recruits of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, spar against each other during the Pugil Sticks I event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb. 10. Maintaining balance and using proper technique was critical to winning of the match. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate April 22.
