The combination of torrential rain and melting snow has pushed numerous rivers to major flood stages, leading to a state of emergency in several counties, causing hazardous conditions for the people of Washington, homes, property, businesses, agriculture, transportation systems, and the economy of Washington State.
The Washington National Guard was activated on Dec. 10 by the Governor to provide immediate, on-the-ground support to local emergency managers. The Washington National Guard is the state's proven and reliable force, composed of citizen-soldiers and airmen from local communities, who rapidly deploy to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure when floods threaten our homes and neighbors. Washington National Guard forces are postured to assist local, county, and State authorities with flood response support as needed, on order from the TAG through a tiered response. show less
